Learning and Connection at RSNA 2024
Faculty and trainees of Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) at WashU Medicine spent a week sharing their expertise, furthering their education and connecting with thousands of other radiology professionals at the 110th Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting in Chicago. The annual radiology forum features several days of educational programs, technical exhibits and networking opportunities. Numerous MIR radiologists and researchers led lectures and discussions, presented their work and received recognition for their imaging prowess during this year’s conference.
- Mahsa Dolatshahi, MD, a postdoc working in the Raji Brain Health Imaging Lab within the Neuroimaging Labs Research Center, presented new research that links visceral body fat in midlife with Alzheimer’s disease up to 20 years before symptoms appear. Dolatshahi received the Trainee Research Prize and had her work featured by RSNA.
- A new addition to this year’s conference was a dedicated MIR booth in Educators Row. Faculty members and trainees shared the department’s latest developments and opportunities with a host of fellow meeting attendees.
- Education leadership including Pamela K. Woodard, MD; Martin N. Reis, MD; Naganathan B. Mani, MD; Janice W. Semenkovich, MD; and Joseph E. Ippolito, MD, PhD, hosted a question-and-answer session for those interested in pursuing a career in radiology. They provided insight into the match process from start to finish and what to look for in a radiology residency program.
- MIR’s expansive alumni network reunited at the annual MIR at RSNA reception. The evening included a departmental update from Woodard and time to connect with friends and colleagues.
- Abhinav K. Jha, PhD, associate professor of radiology and biomedical engineering, and Daniel L.J. Thorek, PhD, associate professor of radiology, received their Distinguished Investigators Awards from the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research at an in-person ceremony. Adam T. Eggebrecht, PhD, associate professor of radiology, and Manu S. Goyal, MD, associate professor of radiology, were also named distinguished investigators.
- Several faculty and trainees were recognized for their clinical and research work. Award and grant recipients include David H. Ballard, MD; John G. Cooper, MD, PhD; Jacqueline M. Godbe, MD, PhD; Ippolito; Ashwin Singh Parihar, MD; Farzaneh Rahmani, MD; Adrian A. Sanchez, MD, PhD; and Gregory J. Wehner, MD, PhD.
