Faculty Named to Council of Distinguished Investigators

Four faculty members from Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have received the Distinguished Investigators Award from the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research. This honor recognizes individuals from academic and industry institutions for their outstanding contributions to medical imaging.
Adam T. Eggebrecht, PhD, associate professor of radiology in the Biophotonics Research Center, leads the Brain Light Laboratory. His research using diffuse optics focuses on three broad areas: hardware development, software and algorithm development and applications from basic science to clinical care.
Manu S. Goyal, MD, an associate professor of radiology in the neuroradiology section and principal investigator in the Neuroimaging Labs Research Center, is co-director of the Vlassenko/Goyal Lab. His lab uses human brain imaging tools, including PET and MRI, to understand brain metabolism and its structure, and to determine how this changes with age.
Abhinav K. Jha, PhD, an associate professor of radiology and biomedical engineering, is a principal investigator in the Precision Radiotheranostics Translation Center. His research is focused on developing novel physics and artificial intelligence (AI)-based methods for image reconstruction, image enhancement, image analysis and task-based image-quality evaluation.
Daniel L.J. Thorek, PhD, an associate professor of radiology in the Precision Radiotheranostics Translation Center, leads the Molecular Radiotherapy + Imaging Laboratory. Using advanced model systems of disease with noninvasive measures of treatment response, his lab seeks to develop and optimize treatments to inform patient management and improve outcomes.
These four investigators will be honored alongside 38 cohort members during an in-person ceremony at the Radiological Society of North America’s 110th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting in Chicago.
