Four faculty members from Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) were recognized by the Academy of Educators at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, an institutional collaboration that fosters a culture of educational excellence and creates a coalition of health science education community leaders.

Matthew S. Parsons, MD, professor of radiology, and Monica Shokeen, PhD, associate professor of radiology, received the Exemplary Educator Award, recognizing those with at least six years of academic faculty service who are actively building legacies as educators through contributions to education and mentorship. Parsons is the director of the neuroradiology fellowship program and assistant director of the diagnostic radiology residency program.

Shokeen serves as vice chair for diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, spearheading efforts to create a community and culture of respect, belonging and empathy in the department. Tyler J. Fraum, MD, assistant professor of radiology, received the Rising Star Award, which recognizes those with less than six years of service as faculty in an academic teaching setting who show exceptional promise as educators through their contributions in one or more domains of educational service, leadership or scholarship.
