The Clinical Research Laboratory (CRL) assists researchers from throughout Washington University School of Medicine with their studies that require advanced imaging modalities in the shortest possible timeframe.

CRL has been committed to fulfilling multiple research needs for Washington University faculty for 20+ years where strengths have included clinical trials coordination involving imaging modalities such as CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and X-ray.  Historically customers requesting services have included both basic and clinical imaging research conducted by Diagnostic faculty however due to the customized service and outstanding performance provided by CRL personnel, customers requesting services have expanded over the last 10+ years to including multi-departmental collaborations and numerous sub-specialties not always requiring imaging modalities.
Today, customers include not only Radiology faculty, but faculty from Anatomy & Neurobiology, Anesthesiology, Bio-Engineering, Genetics, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Orthopedics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Neurology, Neurological Surgery, Pathology & Immunology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiation Oncology and Surgery. The use of an imaging modality as a focus is no longer a prerequisite. CRL staff are dedicated to foster and expand your research endeavors.

Projects are a 50/50 mix of industry and non-industry (government) funding. While these trends do change, CRL staff remains flexible to meet the changing needs as requested by sponsors and faculty. In doing so, CRL staff maintains necessary credentials, and continued training in their area of expertise to remain up-to date on policies and certifications. CRL’s primary mission is to provide coordination services to support both basic and cutting-edge healthcare research to the WUSM community. Using advanced imaging and information technology systems, the CRL will assist faculty and their collaborators, in the training, design, execution and analysis of basic and translational science with the majority emphasized in imaging research. We foster both internal and external partnerships to pioneer development of innovative, advanced state-of-the-art technologies and protocols. In support of MIR’s research initiative, CRL is well positioned and prepared to continue offering services to the wider University enterprise. Regardless of the size or duration of the project, CRL is available to meet the needs.

To meet the needs of all CRL customers served, the mission of the CRL is accomplished through two major goals.

  • CRL’s philosophy centers on a commitment to service and is executed at the highest quality possible because of their reliability, integrity, enthusiastic passion, and compassion for research participants.
  • The CRL creates a sense of community among customers allowing for research-driven investigations and scientific exchange that helps connect imaging scientists, physicians and radiologists, across different departments, divisions, and institutions to succeed.
