Jennings, Mellnick Appointed Vice Chairs
Two new vice chair positions at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis were created to support the department’s academic clinical practice and diagnostic procedural and clinical quality. With the growth in imaging and diagnostic procedures at MIR, these new positions will support the department’s patient care missions and procedural excellence within diagnostic imaging.
Jack W. Jennings, MD, PhD, professor of radiology, steps into the role of vice chair for procedural and clinical quality. In his new role, Jennings will ensure the quality and safety of common radiology procedural practice as performed within diagnostic radiology, working on workflows to ensure adequate equipment, personnel, prep and recovery space are available.
Known for his innovation in the field of musculoskeletal interventions, Jennings is also the director of musculoskeletal and spine intervention procedures at MIR and served as the 2022-2023 president of the American Society of Spine Radiology. He will continue to serve as chief of the musculoskeletal radiology section, a role he’s held since 2015.
Vincent M. Mellnick, MD, professor of radiology, has been named vice chair for academic practice. In his new role, he will support the clinical academic practice operations, including recruitment and retention, staffing and siting of services. He will have primary responsibility for leading the move to the newly constructed Ambulatory Cancer Building and the soon-to-be-opened Plaza West Tower.
Mellnick will continue to serve as chief of the abdominal imaging section, a role he’s held since 2016. He also co-directs the emergency radiology service and has received multiple educator awards from MIR, the School of Medicine, and the Radiological Society of North America.
