Vincent M. Mellnick, MD, is senior vice chair and division director of academic practice for WashU Medicine Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR). A professor of radiology, Mellnick has held key administrative roles, including co-director of emergency radiology and co-director of body CT. Following an international search in 2016, he was appointed chief of abdominal imaging, serving until 2026.

As vice chair since 2024, Mellnick has strengthened clinical academic practice operations and led significant improvements in recruitment, staffing, retention and siting of services. Notably, he successfully directed the complex transitions to the newly constructed Gary C. Werths Building at Siteman Cancer Center and the Plaza West Tower.

Mellnick was named a fellow of the American Society of Emergency Radiology in 2025, recognized with a WashU Medicine Dean’s Impact Award in 2024 and received an RSNA Lifetime Honored Educator Award in 2023. He is an alumnus of MIR’s abdominal radiology fellowship and diagnostic radiology residency programs. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
