Pamela K. Woodard, MD, the Elizabeth E. Mallinckrodt Professor and director of WashU Medicine Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR), was elected to the 2026-2027 Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) fellowship cohort at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dedicated to developing leaders for senior-level executive roles, this prestigious program helps hone professional and personal skills required to lead and manage in today’s complex health-care environment. She is one of 99 participants selected who demonstrate “the greatest potential for assuming executive leadership positions at academic health centers within the next five years.”

Woodard joined the MIR faculty in 1997 after completing a fellowship in cardiothoracic imaging, rising to professor in 2009 and earning an endowed professorship in 2019. Throughout her career as a physician-scientist, she has led cardiovascular imaging studies that have made a significant translational impact, including a landmark study that established a new standard of care for diagnosing blood clots in the lungs. In 2017, Woodard was named senior vice chair and division director of radiology research facilities, providing administrative oversight for MIR’s 11 research facilities — including the Center for Clinical Imaging Research, which she previously directed for 15 years. In 2023, she was named head of the Department of Radiology at WashU Medicine and director of MIR.

To be accepted into the program, each fellow must be nominated and supported by the dean or another senior official of their institution and required to conduct an Institutional Action Project, developed in collaboration with the fellow’s sponsor, and designed to address an institutional or departmental need or priority.
