Suite Deal: New IR Space Open for Business

The new, five-room IR suite at the Parkview Tower of Barnes-Jewish Hospital means interventional radiologists can better meet the demand for services, says Michael M. Darcy, MD, chief of interventional radiology at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology.

Increasingly, IR’s outpatient and minimally-invasive procedures are replacing more traditional surgeries, and they’re performed with less pain and have shorter recovery times. Conditions and diseases that can be treated with IR procedures include:

  • Uterine fibroids
  • Lung and liver cancer
  • Peripheral artery disease
  • Stroke and brain aneurysms
