Ribeiro Pereira Receives Hal O’Brien Rising Star Award
Patrícia M. Ribeiro Pereira, PhD, assistant professor of radiology for Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, was honored with a Hal O’Brien Rising Star Award at the High Country Nuclear Medicine Conference for her outstanding leadership in nuclear medicine science.
The Hal O’Brien Rising Star Award is given to junior faculty, postdocs and fellows who are performing exemplary work in radiopharmaceutical sciences or clinical applications and research in oncology, cardiology and neurology. The award includes a $1,000 travel grant that enables the awardee to travel to the conference and present their work as part of the event proceedings. Awardees are nominated for this honor by their peers; Ribeiro Pereira was nominated by the SNMMI Radiopharmaceutical Sciences Council.
Ribeiro Pereira is the principal investigator of the Disease Imaging and Therapy Lab based out of MIR’s Precision Radiotheranostics Translation Center. Her lab uses preclinical multimodal imaging to determine biological mechanisms by which some tumors do not respond to or develop resistance to therapies. Their goal is to convert non-responder tumors into responders and improve cancer diagnosis and treatment.
