Reunited at the 2022 Evens Society Alumni Weekend

2022 Evens Society Honorees

More than 170 alumni, faculty and friends of Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) reunited in St. Louis for the second Evens Society Alumni Weekend on September 9-10. The first alumni weekend since 2018, the events provided a space to celebrate the lifelong bonds formed at MIR and the innovators who propel the organization to new heights.

To kick off the weekend, guests reconnected and mingled at a welcome reception at the Chase Park Plaza. On Saturday, alumni participated in Continuing Medical Education (CME) programming led by numerous MIR faculty members. Topics ranged from new PET radiotracers to advanced imaging techniques. Tours of MIR’s facilities at Washington University School of Medicine were also available for the many attendees interested in seeing the latest updates.

The weekend culminated with the Evens Society Honors, a gala dinner honoring six distinguished alumni for their significant contributions to the advancement of radiology in the areas of patient care, education and research. The honorees were Howard P. Forman, MD; Joseph K.T. Lee, MD; M. Victoria Marx, MD; William H. McAlister, MD; Christine (Cooky) O. Menias, MD; and Emily L. Smith, MD.

While reflecting on the legacy of MIR and that of the honorees, one word that came to the mind of Sanjeev Bhalla, MD, MIR’s vice chair for education, was “generation.” In radiology, we often talk about generations when it comes to scanners — third-generation, fourth-generation, and so on. “What we’re celebrating today is a generation of radiologists,” Bhalla said. “And each of us knows that what we’ve achieved was never done alone; it was done together.”
