PET-RTRC To Support Program Training Next Generation of Imaging Scientists

The PET Radiotracer Translation and Resource Center (PET-RTRC) will support the new T32 postdoctoral training grant “Translational Imaging in Radiopharmaceutical Sciences” (TIRS) program at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) to help train the next generation of positron emission tomography (PET) molecular imaging scientists.

Two of the program’s leaders are also part of the PET-RTRC team , Vijay Sharma, PhD, professor of radiology and project leader of PET-RTRC’s TR&D3, and Zhude (Will) Tu, PhD, professor of radiology and PET-RTRC co-director and TR&D1 project leader. TIRS will teach postdoctoral scientists how to design, develop and translate diagnostic agents for imaging of neurodegenerative diseases and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

The TIRS program aligns with PET-RTRC’s mission to develop new radiotracers and image key cellular and molecular targets and is intertwined with a critical need to incorporate PET molecular imaging to better understand complexities in ADRD diagnosis and treatment.

The center’s contribution to training students and disseminating relevant information among the scientific community provides significant opportunities to TIRS trainees in the coming years, including facilitating interactions between center investigators.
