Mariya (Masha) Kristeva, MD, is an assistant professor of radiology in the interventional radiology section for WashU Medicine Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR).

Kristeva completed a fellowship in pediatric interventional radiology at Boston Children’s Hospital and her residency training at MIR, serving as one of the IR chief residents from 2024–2025. She earned her medical degree from University of Central Florida College of Medicine.

Before pursuing academic medicine, Kristeva served in the U.S. Army as a health care specialist and combat medic from 2008–2015. During her military service, she was deployed to northern Afghanistan for 12 months in 2010–2011 to support Operation Enduring Freedom.

Clinical Interests

Pediatric and adult interventional radiology, vascular anomalies, venous, lymphatic, and arteriovenous malformations, Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome and related congenital overgrowth disorders, joint and soft-tissue complications of vascular anomalies, chronic hemarthrosis, hemorrhagic joint disease, sclerotherapy and embolotherapy, superficial and deep venous disease, pediatric-to-adult transition care

Research Interests

Systemic manifestations and interventional management of vascular anomalies across the lifespan, hepatic and portomesenteric manifestations of PIK3CA-related overgrowth spectrum (PROS), interventional Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome management, joint complications of vascular anomalies, image-guided therapies for populations excluded from existing clinical trials, long-term sclerotherapy outcomes in vascular malformations, pediatric-to-adult interventional radiology care continuity
