Gyan C. Moorthy, MD
Integrated Interventional Radiology Resident
Graduation Year:
2030My hometown: El Paso, TX
My teachable medical school moment: Drinking two cups of coffee and three Celsius energy drinks (twice the FDA-recommended daily maximum caffeine quantity) during USMLE Step 1 and nearly passing out.
Why I chose MIR: The faculty seemed well-rounded and eager to teach, down-to-earth despite their accomplishments and the institution emphasized excellence in all aspects of radiology, as well as a service mindset. It felt as if radiology was well-respected throughout WashU and radiologists were regarded as integral members of the clinical team. Despite the size of the department, people knew each other and prioritized knowing the technologists, nurses and physicians in other departments with whom they worked closely. In addition, the material resources at MIR (scanners, cath labs, NIH funding, etc.) were no small factor.
My personal interests: Fencing, archery, horseback riding, urban greening, language learning, geography and world history, pub trivia
My favorite go-to meal: Cheese enchiladas
Why I’m excited about living in St. Louis: It's good to be in a place with a lot of unique traditions but also where people are clearly thinking about and invested in the future. I hope to learn more about how I can contribute, particularly to the preservation and expansion of city greenspace.
Something most people don’t know about me: I have a rare form of synesthesia called ticker-taping, which means I visualize what people say as subtitles. Ask me in which font and font color your words appear!
Anything else you should know about me: I'm always up for something new: restaurants, cafés, museums, sports matches, a volunteering event. You name it, and I'm game!
