C2AIS
Education & Training
C2AIS connects imaging science, computational methods and artificial intelligence through interdisciplinary education and research training. We help students, trainees, researchers and clinicians develop the foundational knowledge and practical skills to advance imaging research and critically evaluate emerging technologies.
Graduate Degree Programs
WashU offers interdisciplinary PhD and Master of Science programs that bring together expertise across engineering and medicine. These programs provide rigorous training in the physical, mathematical and computational foundations of imaging. C2AIS faculty also recruit world-class trainees from these graduate programs, including:
- PhD in Imaging Science
- Master of Science in Imaging Science
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering
- PhD in Neuroengineering
- PhD in Neurosciences (DBBS)
- PhD in Biomedical Informatics & Data Sciences (DBBS)
Research Training and Mentorship
Research training is central to the C2AIS mission. Our community connects students and postdocs with faculty working across imaging physics, computational reconstruction, AI-based analysis and clinical translation. We emphasize rigorous scientific reasoning, interdisciplinary collaboration and the ability to connect fundamental methods with meaningful scientific and clinical questions.
Beyond top-quality graduate programs, we offer early-career opportunities in AI-enabled imaging science for high school, undergraduate and postbaccalaureate trainees:
- Summer Focus Program (High school)
- Washington University Women’s Health Engineering Summer Research Program (Undergraduate)
- Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology Summer Research Program (Undergraduate)
- WashU’s Summer Undergraduate Research Guided Experience (SURGE) program (Undergraduate)
- NeuroPrep (Postbaccalaureate)
