2024 Evens Society Alumni Weekend: Celebrating Legacies and Lifelong Bonds

In celebration of the role that MIR has played in the lives of the organization’s vast alumni network — and the MIR members contributing to radiology’s advancement — the third Evens Society Alumni Weekend was held September 6–7.
The biannual alumni weekend kicked off with the inaugural William H. McAlister, MD, MIR Grand Rounds Lecture honoring McAlister, a pediatric imaging pioneer with a more than 60-year career. The lecture speaker, Alan Daneman, MD, is a professor of pediatric imaging for Temerty Medicine at the University of Toronto. He discussed the the role of sonography in the diagnosis and follow-up of neonates with necrotizing enterocolitis.
Following resident-led tours of MIR’s facilities, alumni and current faculty and trainees reunited at the Chase Park Plaza St. Louis near the heart of WashU Medicine’s Medical Campus for a welcome reception. On Saturday, Continuing Medical Education (CME) programming led by MIR faculty and alumni covered topics ranging from AI in radiology to pediatric photon-counting CT.
The weekend culminated with the Evens Society Honors, a gala dinner honoring six distinguished alumni for their significant contributions to the advancement of radiology in the areas of patient care, education and research. The honorees were Michael D. Darcy, MD, Bonnie N. Joe, MD, PhD, Perry J. Pickhardt, MD, Marcus E. Raichle, MD, Cynthia K. Rigsby, MD, and Sally W. Schwarz, RPh.
The six honorees have made immeasurable waves of progress in a range of fields: interventional radiology, breast imaging, abdominal imaging, brain imaging, pediatric cardiovascular imaging and radiopharmaceutical sciences.
