13-Ton Wonder Used in Brain Imaging

Although the brain weighs about three pounds, it took five men, a forklift and one large crane to hoist and position the newest piece of equipment that will examine the organ.

The $2 million MRI scanner is part of an equipment refresh at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology and will be used for clinical research, primarily in the area of neuroimaging. It took nine hours to install the 13-ton, 8’ by 8’ scanner but you can watch the entire process in just a few minutes thanks to this time-lapse video.
