Castro Awarded R01 for Endogenous Opioid Research

Daniel Castro, PhD, assistant professor of radiology for WashU Medicine Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, was awarded a five-year, $2.5 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to support his research on endogenous opiods and their function in regulating motivated behaviors. The R01 grant will leverage next-generation, opioid specific technologies that may provide insights into how neuropsychiatric disorders are often characterized by affective and motivational dysregulation, and suggest specific neurochemical targets for therapeutic intervention.
