Malak Itani, MD

Associate Professor of Radiology
Malak Itani, MD, is an associate professor and chief of abdominal imaging for WashU Medicine Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR). A highly respected leader, mentor and clinician, she is recognized for her expertise in ultrasound and has served as director of the ultrasound service since 2019. Since joining the faculty in 2018, she has overseen the expansion of ultrasound services to South County, strengthened collaboration with West County services and increased access to contrast-enhanced ultrasound. She also helped establish an ultrasound service at Casa de Salud.
Itani is a member of several professional organizations, including the Radiological Society of North America and the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, and she was named a fellow of the latter in 2021. She was named a fellow of the Society of Abdominal Radiology in 2024 and received a Dean's Impact Award in 2025.
Itani earned her medical degree and completed radiology residency at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. She also completed a nuclear medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin; PET/CT and body imaging fellowships at the University of Washington Medical Center; and an abdominal imaging fellowship at the University of Michigan.
