David S. Gierada, MD, is a professor of radiology in the cardiothoracic imaging section for WashU Medicine’s Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR). A member of the MIR faculty since 1994, Gierada’s clinical areas of interest include chest radiology, lung cancer screening, lung cancer, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diaphragm, CT imaging and MR imaging. His research interests include CT screening for lung cancer, CT nodule volumetry, and quantitative CT applications in emphysema and asthma.

Gierada is a member of several professional organizations including the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Society of Thoracic Radiology and serves on several committees within those organizations. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and in 2018 was named a fellow of the American College of Radiology, a prestigious honor awarded to only 15% of members.

Gierada completed his diagnostic radiology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, followed by a chest radiology fellowship at MIR. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and medical degree from Wayne State University.
