Daniel D. Picus, MD, is a professor of radiology and advisor to the chair for WashU Medicine Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology. He served as senior vice chair for special projects from 2017 to 2026, providing invaluable leadership to the department — particularly in coding and billing — and stepped in as interim section chief of interventional radiology (IR) in 2025.
Picus has served in numerous leadership roles at MIR, founding the vascular and IR section in 1987 after joining the faculty the year prior. A renowned clinician and educator, his expertise and innovations in the treatment of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations, biliary injuries and aortic endograft leaks are recognized nationwide, and he has received MIR's Teacher of the Year Award.
Picus completed his residency and fellowship at MIR, serving as chief resident. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and his medical degree from the University of Chicago in 1981.
