Description of Research Group
Dr. Conway is the Director of The Treatment-Resistant Depression Clinic, and his research focus includes understanding mood disorders in adults while evaluating and optimally treating individuals with treatment-resistant major depression (TRMD). In the past five years, more than 100 individuals with severe depression were followed in the Clinic. Dr. Conway has successfully used neuroimaging methods to study the response of TRMD patients to a new technique for depression treatment, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS). Further, through PET imaging, Dr. Conway examined depression treatment augmentation in TRMD patients with an an atypical antipsychotic medication to assess whether the treatment response in this population involves stimulating brain dopaminergic systems. Dr. Conway's group is also currently involved with treatment techniques of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and is interested in the application of transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) to the depressed population.
