Musculoskeletal Radiology

You can be home and feel better the same day.

Once your problem is identified, you will want relief. Sometimes treatment will be rest, medications, physical therapy or surgery. In other cases, the best management may be a procedure that's best performed by a musculoskeletal (MSK) radiologist.

We perform injections of various medications, even orthopedic cement, to address pain originating from sciatica (back and leg pain coming from the spine), osteoporotic (brittle bone) fractures to tumors. And when cancer starts or spreads to a bone, we have methods to kill the tumor using locally applied heat, ice and lasers.

All these interventions are performed through small needles introduced through the skin (percutaneously) while you are sedated and monitored in one of our procedure suites. The procedures are done in an out-patient setting and not in an operating room.  Almost everyone goes home the same day, sometimes with immediate pain relief. Because we use fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to guide these procedures, we can tailor treatment to a very specific location in your body. That’s the advantage of having a MSK radiologist directing your care and our physicians are among the best in the nation.
