When it comes to breast images, we are expert readers.
No group in St. Louis is more qualified to interpret your patients’ breast images than Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University. All scans are interpreted by a board-certified radiologist with a subspecialty in breast imaging. Although we are a high-volume practice – we conduct more than 30,000 examinations annually – we offer personalized attention to referring physicians and their patients. Diagnostic or symptomatic patients are presented with their results the same day they are seen with critical information given to you, the referring physician, via telephone. We are also available for second opinions and consults for those patients who had their imaging done elsewhere. Turnaround is rapid.
Our team comprises expert radiologists and all women technologists. Equipment is all digital and is among the most advanced — anywhere. It includes dedicated breast MRI and ultrasound units, and tomosynthesis (3D mammography). This new technology generates multiple, 1 mm images of the breast to create a 3D representation. Because it allows each layer of the breast to be examined independently and in greater detail, tomosynthesis detects cancers earlier, leads to fewer callbacks and reduces patient anxiety.
