Emergency Radiology Services
Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University provides subspecialty radiology staffing 24/7 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital Emergency Department. With over 85,000 annual visits including 12,000 trauma visits, the emergency department is one of the busiest and most experienced centers in the region as well as in the nation.
We expedite treatment with onsite radiologists providing imaging interpretations in real time. Studies are then reviewed by subspecialty-trained radiologists to provide the highest degree of expertise for our patients and referring physicians. Our equipment is among the most advanced anywhere, and includes two multi-detector CT scanners located close to the patient-care areas for rapid acquisition of scans. We use the most up-to-date techniques including FLASH CT technology for faster scans and lower radiation dose, and can accommodate patients weighing up to 650 lbs. MRI, ultrasound and nuclear medicine studies are also available to emergency department patients round-the-clock.
