Abdominal-imaging section member, Joe Ippolito, M.D., Ph.D.,is fellowship trained in body MRI and is a practicing radiologist and a basic research scientist, whose research focuses on cancer metabolism. The rest of our staff are involved in clinical research spanning all imaging modalities. This is often in collaboration with residents or fellows.
The research our section provides -- both in the lab and in the clinical setting -- enable radiologists to better understand and diagnose disease. It also allows us to keep those training at MIR apprised of the most up-to-date clinical knowledge and imaging techniques. At any given time, there are many active projects in computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR), ultrasound (US) and PET-MRI. PET-MRI is positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.
