A Letter from Program Director Gretchen M. Foltz, MD

Gretchen M. Foltz, MD

Welcome to the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) website. I’m thrilled you’ve decided to take a look at what MIR’s Interventional Radiology training programs have to offer.

The Department of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology is dynamic and ever-growing with:a large volume of patients, broad range of high end cases, numerous ongoing clinical and translational research projects, dynamic faculty, and highly skilled technical and nursing staff.Since the inception of the interventional radiology department we have trained young physicians and have graduated trainees all over the world in both private practice and academic positions.

With the nationwide transition to the interventional radiology residency, Mallinckrodt was one of the first programs to have an approved integrated interventional radiology residency, and we have been very fortunate to recruit some of the brightest young physicians from medical school. Our goal is to provide an educational atmosphere that fosters excellent clinical training, superior technical skills and mentorship for research.

MIR is proud to offer the integrated IR residency, Early Specialization in IR (ESIR) pathway within the diagnostic residency program, and the Independent IR residency, replacing the traditional IR fellowship which will nationally sundown in June 2020.

We will be accepting applications for the 2018-19 application season via ERAS in September 2018. Interviews will be offered to qualified candidates October – December, 2018. Please see the Application Process page for further details.

We will be accepting applications for the 2020-2021 Independent IR Residency via ERAS in December 2018. Interviews will be scheduled January - March 2019. Please see the Independent IR Residency page for further details.

MIR is located in St. Louis, a historic metro area of 2.8 million with a family-friendly reputation and tight-knit communities. The area's low cost of living and central U.S. location are draws for many when choosing a relocation destination. With a robust nightlife scene, some of the finest dining in the United States, and world renowned family activities (many of them free), St. Louis offers affordable big city living. The medical center is located in the trendy Central West End neighborhood, and Forest Park, one of the world’s most beautiful city parks according to Travel and Leisure magazine, is our backyard.

Thank you again for your interest in our programs. If you cannot find the information you’re looking for or would like further information, please don’t hesitate to contact me or my Program Coordinator, Missi Varner. We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,
