Jimmy Xu, MD
Where I grew up (hometown)…The Bronx, NY
Undergraduate…Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA.
Medical School…THE University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI.
Internship…Transitional Year at Presence St. Joseph, Lakeview, Chicago.
Professional Interests…Interventional radiology, molecular imaging, augmented reality
Current Research…Previously 4D DSA. Currently, want to focus on integrating augmented reality with radiology.
Personal Interest/Hobbies…My dog (rescued pit bull), fixin' things around the house, piano (played since I was 5), and gym-tan-laundry.
Favorite thing about St. Louis…Lafayette Square and Forest Park are some magical places. The food scene here is thriving, and with the cost of living so low, you can actually afford to dine at nice places every once in a while. Everything is within a 15-minute drive.
I bet you didn't know that...I have perfect pitch. Some say it's from speaking a tonal language as a child, but I think it's from piano practice.
Jobs I've held outside of radiology/medicine...First summer internship in college was as a "file organization specialist" at a sports store. I sold newspapers in China as a teenager. I worked at Epic for 2 years - New Orleans, Albuquerque, Manchester (by the Sea), Durham, among many other places visited.
Married? Kids? Pets? My wife is an OBGYN resident in Illinois.
Favorite Quote… "The boat is safer anchored at the port; but that’s not the aim of boats." - Paulo Coelho
What attracted you to radiology? The imaging is beautiful.
Why I chose MIR for my training… Best radiology training program in the country, hands down.
