Anurag Chahal, MD
Where I grew up (hometown)… Gurgaon, Haryana. It’s a city 40 kms south of New Delhi, India.
Undergraduate… Amazingly, there is no undergraduate school in India. Although I did spend some years to be at par with my American colleagues by doing a radiology residency in India.
Medical School… All India
Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi
Internship… Brookwood Baptist Health System, Birmingham, AL
Professional Interests… Interventional Radiology(IR)
Current Research… Not currently working on anything. Getting settled in first year at MIR. A topic close to my heart is finding frugal solutions in Interventional Radiology. Stay tuned!
Personal Interest/Hobbies… Running, hiking, sports, just about anything outdoors.
Favorite thing about St. Louis… Running in
Forest park. I usually run to Art museum which is 2.5 miles. Soak the beauty of
its ginormous palatial gardens and run back to my apartment building.
Favorite Website… before 5 pm- www.radiopaedia.com, after 5 pm- www.youtube.com
I bet you didn't know that... I can do headstand for about 5 minutes. However,
the skill keeps fading with senility.
Jobs I’ve held outside of medicine... None really. Blame
it on the Indian mindset.
Married? Kids? Pets? Very happily married with a dermatology resident. We have a toddler son and an year old puppy. My wife is a wizard and deals with all of our(3 y/o toddler’s) mischiefs.
Favorite Radiology Sign… “deep sulcus” sign. Can potentially save a life!
What attracted you to radiology… Radiology has
all the answers. It gives us the anatomical diagnosis, even when it is occult.
And IR, in its full might( i.e image guided therapy), is essentially modern
Why I chose MIR for my training… My medical
school AIIMS is a premier institute for medical education in India and being an
AIIMSONIAN was a special feeling of mutual pride in all its alumni. I sensed a
similar feeling here at Mallinckrodt and I knew I had to come here. Residents
want to stay as fellows and faculty because they just fall in love with the
people and the program.
Favorite Quote… "Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.”
Final Thoughts… I was
told last year in my surgical internship, “ Going forward you will realize this
program is a family, and you carry the family name. Never do anything that
would disrespect the family.” I loved my internship program but I love
Mallinckrodt even more, because this is my true family.
